THE “HTTP://” GYAN!!

It is strange how server hosting has grown as a business spinning organizations around it. For instance, just typing “server hosting provider” in google gives you more than 28 million results!!

http

Choosing a match for this “indispensable pre-requisite” is tough not just by way of the type of server you might choose, but the service provider as well (now that’s a headache)!

Let us at-least broadly look into a few solutions available in the market today. Now the important part here is that each solutions comes with its niche advantage in terms of management, workability and cost advantage. There are more types of hosting than the ones described here but they all originate from these some way or the other.

Shared Hosting

Shared Hosting is the most popular hosting today; reason being, it is a “best price solution”. The concept behind shared hosting is that there are multiple websites on the same server and the space is shared between all as per individual requirements. The solution saves the cost of buying a dedicated solution for anyone in need. The only consideration a user needs to track is the allocation of bandwidth and up time of the server. These servers also implement considerable amount of restrictions on the uploads, usages, software registry etc; primarily to ensure that the environment is friendly to all the websites hosted there.

Dedicated Server

In case one has a heavy requirement either in terms of the space or bandwidth or registries on the server; it is advisable to go in for a dedicated machine or a dedicated server. In layman’s terms, you would get one dedicated hard-disk where your website will be hosted on the website.

A typical dedicated server configuration can be:

  • Single Core/ Dual Core Hard Disk
  • 4GB- 8 GB Ram
  • 1TB -2 TB Bandwidth

Now that is Huge!!

server_room

Virtual Private Server

This can be referred as a mixed solution. We can say that a VPS is something which is more that a shared server but less than a dedicated server. Confused??

Ok, basically in a VPS there is a dedicated slot provided to the user from within the shared hosting (managed by the provider himself). So its like a customized solutions that one can go for. Herein, the costs are more than that of a shared hosting but less than dedicated solutions and you have your own space to perform tasks the way you wish! The solution is most viable for the SME segment.

NEW AVTAARS

Now there are certain solutions which can be referred to as the “NEW AVTAARS” of the industry. There is nothing here in particular the practice of “going along the nature” has found its way in here as well! To some, it actually gives a lot of respite that even their hosting solution is having them contribute a little to the nature. Let us analyze some common practices-

Green Hosting –

Hosting on energy efficient servers which are powered by natural sources of generating energy come under the umbrella of “Green Hosting”. For instance, most Green hosting solutions are powered by the wind energy. It is important to note that these also come with a 99.9% up time guarantee. As it is said, non-renewable energy saved is like trees saved, so one can opt for this option for a good cause.

Cloud Computing

Another concept for the server industry is “Cloud Computing” Cloud computing is an elastic form of hosting wherein you use as much as you require. So if today you need more space & bandwidth, the service provider gives you the exact amount and when your requirement changed the provider gives only as much as you require. Same is the effect on the money you pay for the space you use. Simple isn’t it! Herein, a lot of space/bandwidth wastage is saved and hence the energy.

INNOVATIONS

The information mentioned above were the commonly available resources; however, there are several innovations one can opt for as well! Here is a popular video on youtube highlighting the same:

Guess what!! Google used old assembled computers to make their first datacenter!

It is most important to do a bit of “solution to usage” analysis before choosing the best match. There are plenty of solutions which might lure you in but may not have the best advantage in terms of either cost or usage.

Feel free to enquire on these solutions. Mail us at support@magnonsolutions.com

Create strategies to attract more visitors by making your website easy to use ..

Building a showy website alone would go waste if you do not allow your visitors to use it without difficulty. A website requires easy usability, engagement of the visitors, and interesting stuff to let it run and serve the purpose of its being. Here are a few points that could simplify the difficulty about making your website easy to use, focused and attractive at the same time.

How do you present your business through your website?

Your website is the mirror to your business. Attracting visitors to your website and then generating business – all depends upon the manner in which you present your business. In fact, your website plays a major role in maintaining your brand identity. For presenting your website efficiently, a few tips might help.

  • Too many colors could make your website very repulsive
  • The images need to be optimized so that they do not take too much time in loading.
  • The fonts used in your website should maintain uniformity. For example, if your homepage content has the font ‘times new roman’ and another page has ‘Ariel’ as its font, it depicts un-professionalism.
  • Your website has to be compatible to all internet browsers.

Is the navigation of your website complicated?

Your site visitors do not have enough time or patience to go on searching your website for finding the relevant information. So if the navigation of your site is made easy, it can create a great difference. Inserting a few of these tools can serve the purpose:

  • Site maps: Site maps tell you what all are stuffed in your website and let visitors decide on which page they can land up directly.
  • Links: The links serve as connectors within your website. They make your visitors reach the targeted page with ease. So, your site needs to have links that could bring your site visitors to the home page, then to the top of the page or to other pages within the site.
  • Navigation panels: Every website needs to have a navigation panel because it directs the various customers to various areas on your website. These are usually found on the left hand side of a web page.
  • Search bar: A search bar is useful in large sites. It takes in keywords from visitors and enables them to land on their desired relevant pages.

How good is your web content?

The content in your website needs to be tested well before uploading them on your website. It should in fact have a special appeal to your visitors. The quality of the content should be such that it retains your visitors for longer time and then watch them come back to your website again and again. Few factors should be kept in mind while writing content for your site:

  • Originality.
  • Free from grammatical errors or spelling mistakes.
  • Easy and understandable language.
  • Not too elaborate but provide the relevant information efficiently.
  • Important informations need to be highlighted or put under bullets.

I am sure you can keep your website alive by applying these key components and make it more ravishing and easy to employ.

Do you have anything that can add to this article? We would love to hear from you.

Have you ever realized how essential the content in your website can be? If not, check this out…

While you attempt to boost up your business by attracting people to your website, content can be said to be one of the main facets in doing the same. The content that is put up in your website needs to be tested out. It should be such that it can have specific appeal to your target audience. In simple words, your writing should be such that it attracts people all over.

When you write content for your website, certain things need to be brought to notice:

  • The content that you create for your website should have the originality. It should be different and unique, conveying the right message to the right group of people. Moreover, fresh content with the visitor’s expectations in view would always be appreciated.
  • When you write good content, it reflects the writer’s individuality because it contains one’s flavor in it. Essentially, always try and add in a personal touch to the content. This would always interest the reader and he would be able to relate with the write-up. Indeed, if you are not able to give your best to your writing, it would be of no use putting it online as it would not bring repeated visitors.
  • The language that you use for your content has to be in easy and understandable. Visitors would turn away from your website if they require a dictionary to read the content. Easily readable content or articles can draw the attention of the visitors and would even interest them in your products or services if they are well written about.
  • There might be some web pages that contain spelling mistakes or grammatical errors and this may cause damage to your business in several ways. In the first place, it could harm the reputation of your company because such basic errors look very unprofessional. Secondly, improper writing affects the rankings on search engines. If there is no one to proof-read your content, put it into a word processor and run the spell check. This would definitely help!
  • If you think you do not get enough time to compile articles or put up content on your website, there is an option to pick up relevant article from wherever possible but keep in mind to mention the source at the end. Otherwise there might be copyright issues which might affect your business as well.
  • Make the content detailed enough to provide sufficient information, yet also keep it brief enough to get him interested in speaking with you. Ideally, the content of the website should be a good gel of paragraphs and bullet points, leading the reader to the contact us page and filling up his / her details.
  • On a final note, updating content on the website would assist readers in remaining updated with the latest developments at your end. We understand that in some business, the nature is such that is does not allow you to. However, a section like ‘What’s New’ or ‘Industry Updates’ would surely have something new for the site users to read.

Content is thus a good weapon on the internet and most of the time helps to win complete favor of the potential clients. It can again be said to be an effective communicating tool that informs people about everything that is happening around your business. So along with the site design and development, why not keep a steady watch on the content as well?

Why not give a thought to it and share with us..?

Making a shift from the conventional to the new media would be a great idea if you want to market your business efficiently!

For promoting a business, it is seen that people use any new technique that is accessible. With the passage of time we have witnessed people experimenting with all the fresh things and accept it if the consequences turn out to be positive. The same goes for business promotions. Let us find out a few reasons why we see a shift from the conventional media to the new media.

  • First reason can be said to be the communication. Today we no more find one way communication. The letters to the editor or the television shows had very few audiences in terms of interaction. It is with the new media that the people have started hearing regularly from the audience. This solves the purpose of the interactive media.
  • Secondly, publishing used to be very time consuming but with new media, it takes seconds for an article to be published. Moreover, the articles in print cannot be changed once on air but online articles can be edited number of times according to the requirements.
  • During this time when recession is at its peak, people look into easy methods of business promotion but spending less money. The traditional media includes various promotional techniques which ask for a lot of money. Out of all the techniques, the ones that use the internet turn out to be very effective and looking into its results, people are making the best use of the online promotions, leaving behind the print media. For instance, out of 100% invested for business promotion, 30-40% goes into online marketing, which is the most effective. Looking into this, people are making a logical shift from the conventional media to the new media.
  • When you want to distribute your advertisements or news about your company in new media, you can do it very conveniently sitting in the same place. Whereas, when you use the print media for circulation, you need people, resources and a lot of time. Thus switching to the online media could be a wise decision to make.

For your information, during 2007-2008, the banner advertisements in the Indian market is estimated to reach Rs. 2,350 millions INR approximately. Thus the future of online media business is foreseen to spread its wings and reach heights of success further in the Indian market. A quick survey of the market research says that the new media would work wonders in the coming years with a growth of nearly 49%. (The figures have been taken from IAMAI report for ‘Online Advertising Market in India’)

When it is clear that the new media is reaching heights of success, you need not wonder about how you can make this shift. Here are a few steps you can try out:

  • Whenever you try to make a shift from the conventional media to the new media, the first thing you need to know is the content quality. Unless the online conversations or campaigns add value to your promotions, the new media would not sound to be very effective. Simply adding the content will not help much unless you make your content to talk. New media demands for a two way communication. Along with it, adding human touch to the content would give you the best results.
  • Knowing your target audience is the next step. It would be effective if you join the conversations that follow now-a-days. A little research on how your target audience spends time online would give you enough confidence to become active online and engage people to enlarge your network.
  • Finally, create your own blog, your twitter profile, Facebook profile, with content through which a two-way communication evolves. Your target audience would then easily find you and communicate with you. Including forms or comment box would be useful.

Now when you know that leaving behind the traditional media can work wonders, what are you waiting for? We would love to know your suggestions on the same.

SEO and SMO – though totally different, can work wonders if put together!

SEO and SMO are the two of the many terms that are responsible for your business promotion during this internet age. But as we see that ‘O’ stands for optimization in both the terms, we are yet to discover if both can exist together.

Let us first make a comparison based on various aspects between the two:

On Page Elements:
SEO – The search engine rankings are dependant on title tags, bold texts, headers, image titles and above all, the keywords.
SMO – Striking visual representations can grab the attention of the visitors and that influences the most, even more than coding and tags.

Titles:
SEO – The title tag carries a lot of weight in the rankings just because it tells the search engine what the page is all about.
SMO – Attractive headlines and titles capture a lot of attention and get the users click through.

Content:
SEO – The content needs to be easily readable by the search engines. This means that the quality content should have relevant keywords which are important for the page to rank well.
SMO – The content has to be in easy language for easy insight of the human readers. Moreover, it should also contain attractive statements that can hold the readers’ attention and make them convinced about what you are trying to say.

In addition to the Content:
SEO – Along with the content, the structure of the site also needs to be sound enough.
SMO – Your profile in the social networks need to be more attractive and appealing and this will surely make a big variation in SMO.

Link Building:
SEO – The links that are connected to our website are the inbound links and these links in turn help in increasing the rankings of your site in the search engines.
SMO – If you are successful in your SMO activity, you will definitely benefit with your SEO for your website.

The comparison says that SEO and SMO are built on different platforms but from this comparison we can even come to a conclusion that the two work together rather than separately. One of the best ways to draw visitors to your new website or blogs is through SMO. This activity will definitely have a long-lasting effect on the search engine rankings as well.

It is only a few years that the social networks evolved and Social Media Optimization came into existence. When people became familiar to both the concepts of SEO and SMO, they even came to know the importance of traffic to any website. Thus when compared, we see that the traffic that comes from SEO is more steady than the SMO. But when social networks are used efficiently for business, they are able to draw more traffic to their websites and convert their visitors to potential customers. In other words, the social media sites attract traffic with their brilliant networking profiles and Search Engine Optimization increases visibility on search engines with keyword ranking.

Web 1.0 and Web 2.0..its all about the transition!!

Internet gaining grounds gradually, any new easily accessible tool that comes to be known is accepted by all web users. With the advent of various platforms for the easy use of internet, many people were getting used to web 1.0; but when the next version evolved, it entirely replaced web 1.0 all because it could involve the internet surfers besides the webmasters. It has people from every corner of the world to become a part of one large community. Consequently the web culture has been revolutionized with Web 2.0 touching the internet ground. A few of the changeovers are defined below:

  • When Web 1.0 was in use, it was Double Click dominating the online  advertising services, but with Web 2.0, Google Ad Sense is taking the hold.
  • Flickr surpass Ofoto because of its easy-to-run capability with web 2.0 applications.
  • With the advent of Web 2.0, came the concept of blogging which intends to be interactive giving all information about yourself or your company. This was initially done through the personal websites on the Web 1.0 platform.
  • In Web 1.0, only publishing of articles or content was possible, but with Web 2.0 participation of writers is facilitated.
  • MP3.com, build on Web 1.0 platform, could only allow users to gather information about music, songs, artists etc, but Napster.com that is build upon Web 2.0 platform, allows people to easily share their MP3 files among each other without worrying about copyright issues.
  • Britannica Online, on the Web 1.0 medium, served the purpose of online research results but when Web 2.0 came into being, Wikipedia proved to serve this purpose better because it involves contribution.

Thus we see that the elements that differentiate Web 2.0 from Web 1.0 are numerous. Moreover, if we try to look into the benefits of Web 2.0, we find that it enhances user interface, increases interactivity, and allows the ease to get connected.

So what are you waiting for?? Give your suggestions or comments and stay tuned for the next version.

To get on high rankings on search engines for your website, use keywords intelligently within your site!

Technology reaching heights, web customers usually ignore the basic things that can make a difference to your business. Keywords or key phrases can be said to be the main factor responsible for giving visibility to your website or help the customers reach you through the web. In other words, if a web user types the keywords relating to your products or services on the search engines, the keywords should be such that it lands up on your website. So, for optimizing your website on the search engines, your keywords should have more value compared to others.

Tactics of deciding on the right keywords:

Take a note of a few things that you should keep in mind while choosing the right keywords –

  • First of all, try to do a swapping business. Think yourself to be a customer and make a research on the keywords you will use in the search engines to find your website.
  • There are many keyword tools specifically designed to assist you in your search for keywords. These tools include Google Adwords Keyword Tool, Google Insights, Wordtracker, etc. These tools will tell you how popular your keywords are, in which region of the world it is mostly searched for, and also displays similar keywords.
  • Also, get ideas from everyone and everywhere you can find (don’t forget your competitors’ sites) and list them all.

Keyword density:

The relevance of a web page is determined by means of its keyword density. The standard keyword density for major keywords is 3-7% and that of minor keywords is 1-2%. If the percentage of keywords is too high, the search engines consider it to be a spam and if it is too low, the keywords will not be very effective. Although there are no strict rules, 5-10 keywords in each page is considered to be a reasonable count.

Placing of the keywords:

Although the quantity of keywords is important for effective SEO results, the quality is equally important. There are certain placements of keywords that the search engines reach easily. Lets check for keyword placing starting from the top of the window:

  • Place 3-5 keywords in the URL because it tells all about your website.
  • Another unique place for locating your major keywords is the page title; because it usually gets displayed in search engines.
  • If the paragraphs are lengthy, place the main keywords on every paragraph; and if they are short, place them after every 2nd paragraph.
  • Try to place the keyword at the concluding sentence of your content.

If your potential customers are unable to find you, your website cannot be considered to be great however content rich it might be.  So, make some effort at the beginning to allow positive results continue.

Why not try on these guidelines for valuable traffic roll in to your website!

We welcome your thoughts and views…

Cyber Marketing – Coming of Age!!

Brands are now using the cyber space as a medium to communicate and this cyber world is slowly but surely becoming an essential channel of communication for brands today.  Do you think that tight advertising and promotional budgets are making you to stay away from your customers? Then Cyber Marketing or Online Marketing is the solution!

Let us find out how…

Ability to convert your customer instantaneously: When we look into traditional media such as newspaper or television ads and magazine ads, it is never possible to convert your customers. Whereas marketing online not only allows you capture your potential customers but also capture a sale instantaneously.  And when it comes to offline marketing, it takes time to convert a customer into a sale however in online marketing it is done by a few clicks of the mouse.

Make changes and refine even when on air: Offline marketing includes the traditional method of placing advertisements in newspapers, magazines, or on television. Once the advertisement goes on air or gets published, nothing can be done to make changes or rectify errors; but in online advertising, it is not so. By making a deliberate effort to find out how your marketing efforts are doing, you can decide on what changes can be made in the graphic or wording section of your advertisement without facing any kind of difficulty.

Target the immediate results for your online campaign: Online analytics, which is one of the most powerful tools to track or determine how your online campaign is doing, is another support to this kind of marketing business. No doubt people have been finding ways to track the effectiveness of traditional marketing techniques , but most of the times are still based on trend analysis and not so real time information which could mean that you might be in a dilemma about the success or failure of your campaign. But, online campaigns can foresee the results!

Target demographics in your advertising can be foreseen: The target audience is the main focus while advertising your product or service. And the cyber world allows you to fix up your target audience i.e., specific demographics such as gender, age and location. It cannot be said that this is impossible in case of the traditional method of advertising but you will keep on guessing endlessly without knowing the conclusion.

Variety can add spice to Advertising: When marketing online, you can always make choices for the mode of advertising. Be it the audio, video, blogs, emails, social media or ongoing newsletters, you can any day enjoy the opportunity to advertise through any or all the mediums using your creativity skill. But when you go the other way round, it is much tougher because you need to approach several media outlets to cover your bases.

Affordability matters, after all: Internet Marketing has the potential to overthrow television and publications and at some time! Brand Management and Lead Generation is the main motive behind any kind of marketing and since online marketing serves the purpose in the best possible way, it can be said to have gained its position during recession. When everyone had been spending huge amounts in the traditional methods of advertising, is now looking into cost cutting and thus switching to Cyber-marketing.

Interactivity is a must: Cyber marketing is again beneficial in the sense that the existing as well as the potential clients can share information very conveniently; that can increase your business possibilities.

If you are someone who were unaware of or could not grab the opportunities of online marketing, it is never too late to venture its offering.

So click here and get started!!
